“Distressed but not Destroyed” is one family’s story about surviving crushing adversity, pain, and heartache. In the midst of overwhelming difficulty, the family developed unwavering commitment and deep joy. Pamela Gardner shows how pain and adversity can coexist with contentment, and even lead to great personal growth. Pamela’s story has a way of forcing us to see ourselves as we really are and allowing us to understand our circumstances in their true light.
The book causes us to ask questions about life and personal relationships, and even challenges the reality of our faith in God. Pam’s story shows that we can instead strengthen our relationship with God, deal with the difficulty, and know true joy in the middle of the adversity. The book reveals Pamela’s heart as it tells about her own struggles with illness and full-time ministry, as well as the demands of raising a special needs daughter. The burdens were great, but God met her in the dark hours and taught her lessons that have inspired and comforted many in their journey with God. Through love, laughter, and faith we can be distressed but not be destroyed.
Pam Gardner has been actively involved in Christian missions for most of her life. She was introduced to ministry as a young woman involved in open air and street corner evangelism in Australia. As her own experience grew so did the opportunities for Pam to be used by God to affect the lives of men and women throughout the world. Pam has a unique insider s view of ministry. As a mother, as a youth leader, as a pastor s wife, and later as the wife of the International Director of Ambassadors for Christ International (AFCI), Pam knows the demands ministry places on a marriage and family. Learning to balance these demands with those of a special-needs daughter has been a difficult, but greatly rewarding journey.
